I leave enough mâche and Claytonia to seed that I get great spring harvests. The problem with that is they come up densely so unless I thin (which I have a hard time doing) they don't get large & harvest is tedious. Also leaf celery and broad leaved parsley overwinter under cover & self sow freely after they go to seed.

I share your views on self-sown volunteer seedlings and their resilience compared to those deliberately sown. My strongest plants are often those that choose their own timing and place to live. Enjoy your garden gifts. 🌿
